Why Essential Oils?!

  • Obligatory Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional or considered an authority on essential oils. I am a mother who loves researching, implementing, and sharing about natural remedies. • What are EOs? The aromatic, volatile liquid that is within shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds, usually extracted by steam distillation. Known as the plant kingdoms “life blood/immune system,” EOs help carry nutrients in and carry waste products out; they act as hormones, enzymes and neurotransmitters; initiate healing, regeneration, and growth when a plant is injured in any way; most importantly, EOs are the main source of protection against infection and disease.  EOs are nothing new.  They are thought of as the oldest known forms of medicine. We know that oils were abundantly used and revered during Biblical times. There are over 600 references to essential oils found in the Scriptures, more than 150 of them in relation to the practice of anointing.  David Stewart says it best in his book: Chemistry of EOs, God’s Love Manifest in Molecules….”they (EOs) come to us as experienced and trained agents for health and healing. They enter the body with purpose and possess an intelligent discrimination to do what the body needs them to do.” We call this characteristic ADAPTOGENIC, but what it really points to is the Intelligent Design of our Creator.

  • How EOs Work: When you breathe in an EO, it is picked up by the neurons that hang down from the olfactory bulb, right between the eyes in the top of the sinus cavity. Molecules are carried within milliseconds into the center of the brain called the limbic lobe. The Limbic System plays an important role in learning and motor development, memory, all of our emotions, hunger and thirst cues, sleep and circadian rhythms, sexual behavior, hormone balance, pain perception, blood pressure, neurotransmitter secretions, enzyme activity, etc. Topically, EOs are able to penetrate through the skin due to their light molecular size & weight refined by the distillation process. They are also fat-soluble, allowing the fatty bi-layer under the skin to absorb them in and transport the molecules into the blood stream. Every square inch of skin contains 19,000 nerve endings! Take Rosemary, for example (found in Thieves): “the oil molecule then travels to the dermis and enters the blood capillaries there. Eventually it passes to the arteries and veins throughout the body. As the oil molecule moves through the blood stream, it travels to cell receptors on the liver. Finding the right cell receptor, it acts to regenerate and balance this vital organ” (AltMD.com). One drop of a therapeutic grade EO can touch every single cell in your body 40,000 times in about 20 minutes. POWERFUL POTENTIAL!!! This is not by accident; this is because we serve a mighty God who desires to restore us. EOs can have a profound physiological and psychological effect bringing vitality to the ENTIRE body.
